Open oil cap while engine running

July 5, 2016, 9:18pm #8. Your friend’s engine is probably a high mileage engine and worn more than yours; so, has more crankcase pressure. The only remedy for it is a rebuild with new piston rings, etc. Maintenance wise, s/he will have to change spark plugs, pvc valve, air filter, and motor oil more often.

26 Dec 2016 I was checking my oil and my car was running I took the oil cap off Do u check trans fluid level with motor running or not running. oil and air is being released through the cap opening with the cap off, yes that is a problem. 25 Apr 2019 The only time that we tend to open the oil cap is during a scheduled oil It ensures maximum compression so that your engine will be running  Next, pop the hood, find the oil cap, and open it. This is Replace the oil cap when finished. Let the engine run for a moment to regain proper oil pressure. Engine oil cap for how to change motor oil and oil filter it flows throughout the car's engine and keeps everything running smoothly. While mechanics and other car maintenance people do a fine job with this Before you open the hood and tackle this task, make sure you have all the necessary supplies and equipment. 30 Mar 2008 The engine idled down so i put it back on. After i put the cap back on, it idled very irratically and when i would give it gas, it would stall. many cars have a splash baffle right under the oil fill cap. My camry in particular. You can run it all day without splashing any oil out.or at least from the dealer to the house and back to get them to give you a new cap to replace the one they failed to replace after an oil change and which then fell somewhere along the route.

27 Oct 2019 So what is it? Does it make any sense to check under the oil cap for air/wind coming when the engine is running, or is this a completely useless  The engine oil can get dispersed all over the engine compartment as oil pressure is 40-60 psi and makes one heck of a mess and can, potentially be, a fire hazard. Running it too long without the cap can disperse enugh oil out of the engine where there will not be the minimum amount of oil in it to prevent damage to crankshaft bearings and camshaft lobes. opening an oil cap on my honda GX-160 generator engine while it's running ,oil everywhere People should NOT check for oil (or open the oil filler cap) when the engine is running. Just explain to the people that is a dumb thing to do and turn off the engine first. If nothing else, it close the cap, only open when shut off. half the time it will be under pressure, the other half under vacuum. the total will vary by the number of cylinders, and the volume of the pistons in the bore. opening up the cap, injests air from the outside, giving impurities such as dust (in the air) to get attracted to the oil.

92 toyota tercell. Got an oil change two weeks ago. Drove it today for a little longer than usual and noticed lots of white smoke at lights when still. Then I opened the hood and found the oil cap was off. Oil had spurted all over the engine and also radiator fluid. I filled up both fluids. Engine began knocking too. I got it home.

17 Jan 2019 It very much depends on the engine and where the oil cap is. If you have a regular car with the oil cap on top of the valve cover, and you open it at idle, all that

Looking to buy a used car, I was told that if air is blowing out of the oil fill cap when open while the engine is running it's a bad sign but I'm wondering if this could be just how this model works. My car has 95000 miles. My car has an automatic transmission. The grime around the oil cap is probably because some people take off the cap, invert it, and lay it on the table or on the radiator support. Any oil that is in/on the threads will run down and flow across your cap gasket. Then when you put it back on, it will make an oily mess around the cap. I noticed this when I was changing my oil one time.

It means that the fuel system is working as advertised. By removing the oil cap you have introduced a large air leak in a closed PCV system. Some systems are that sensitive.BMW, for example, will do the same thing if tuned properly. If there is a problem with the engine,it would be that it is running on the lean side.
